What the Bible Says About the Heart
The biblical heart isn't just feelings — it's the whole person. What lives there runs the life.
Heart as source: Everything flows from it (Prov 4:23). It reflects who you really are (Prov 27:19).
Heart can be wounded: God is close to the brokenhearted (Ps 34:18). He heals and bandages wounds (Ps 147:3). Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted — this was central to his mission (Isa 61:1).
Heart carries lies: The heart can build a whole identity around things that aren't true (Jer 17:9). Truth — real truth — is what breaks the grip (John 8:32). Fear is a diagnostic: persistent fear often traces back to a lie (1 John 4:18, Rom 8:15).
Mind needs renewing: Transformation comes from changing the way you think, not just changing behavior (Rom 12:2, 2 Cor 10:4-5).
God promises a new heart: Not metaphor — his stated intention (Ezek 36:26).
Healing in community: Some of this work needs a witness (James 5:16).
